Nearing the end of summer this year a couple friends and I decided to get some coffee, head out at 2am, hoping to see possible meteor shower sightings we had read about being visible in our area. Our weather apps on our phones consistently told us how cloudy it would be all night. Refusing to believe a spectacular meteor show was going to happen just out of sight behind the clouds, we headed out hoping the forecast was wrong and the clouds would part.
Here are a couple of the shots I started with that are the least cloud covered.
We still managed to see a few meteors through the clouds. We enjoyed watching until we saw this burst of light turn on like a switch and realized the sun was on its way above the horizon…
Once we realized the sun was coming and we could see fewer stars by the minute (the few we could see through the clouds) we decided to get back in the car and head downtown to watch the sun rise over the river. At the end of the day (breakfast time for the rest of the world) it was a complete meteor shower fail, but a good time none the less.
